This is an update to a previous post about the MS live Sign-In assistant causing Java programs to stop functioning. Microsoft released an update to the Windows Live Sign-In Assistant.  

The update is listed as an optional update through Microsoft Update as “Update for Windows Live Sign-In Assistant (KB 947449)” .     At this moment MS does not have anything on the support site for this KB.

After downloading this update and re-enabling the IE application plug-ins, Java Applications are functioning as expected.   I can’t say they are functioning well because after all, it is Java we are talking about.

A new section of TRF has been setup that will include the Windows Live Writer Plugins that have been shared on TRF.   Work will continue on the existing plugins and development of new plugins should start shortly.    Current WLW Plugins are:

• Insert Technorati Tags
• Insert HTML Break

Technorati Tags: WLW – Windows Live Writer – Plugins

A second in a series (see the first: Insert HTML Break Plugin for Windows Live Writer) of plugins that I am working on for Windows Live Writer is the Insert Technorati Tags Plugin( v1.0-beta).   This is written in VB.Net and gets a lot of it’s inspiration from the article ”Write a Windows Live Writer plugin using C#“  written by Keyvan Nayyeri.  I am trying to give C# a chance, but for now I think I will stick with VB.Net.  

Like the Insert HTML Break Plugin it can be invoked from the side bar or the insert menu.I did make a few changes from Keyvan’s ideas.   The first was to break away from using a separate form and just use a input box.  I may break away from doing this in the next version.  

When executed it will present you with the dialogue window prompting for the tags you want to use. 

This is second place I parted from Keyvan’s design.  His design called for space delimiters.  I chose to abandon this and do comma delimited because I didn’t want to be limited to 1 word tags.

As this is version 1 of this program, it is functional.  I am sure I will find things I need to improve.   Please check back and make sure to update if they are available.  I will make posts as there are major changes.

I had the pleasure of getting my first WLW plugin linked to Windows Writer Plugins Blog listing many of the WLW plugins available on the ‘Net.   Over the past few weeks I have become quite the fan of WLW and have stared to use it exclusively.   It is nice to see that others have taken an interest in it and are creating portals to extending it’s capabilities using plugins.

I look forward to having some more of my plugins listed on the site as I release them.

In an earlier post I mentioned Microsoft’s Live Write Beta.   I really like the product and use it for most of my postings here on TRF.  But I have noticed there are some things I wished it did.    Since Microsoft decided to release a SDK for Live Writer, it would be a shame if I didn’t take a look at it to see if I could create a plugin overcome some of my needs.

I figured my first plugin should be an easy one.   I had one goal, and it was to insert a HTML Break into the text.   WLW doesn’t really give you the ability to do this without switching between the views.   As with other projects (iTunes Scripts) I used Visual Basic to write the plugin.

The installer will place the “InsertHTMLBreak.dll”  into the plugin directory of Windows Live Writer.  The next time you start WLW it will load the plugin and make it available for use.

You can choose to use the plugin in two different ways:

The “Insert HTML Break” off the “Insert” menu to the side:

Or you can choose to to insert using the insert drop down menu on your toolbar.

I know that this is a pretty simple plugin but it did serve my purpose.  I wanted to know that I could do it.   Now I get to move on to some of the ideas I have for other plugins.
